Manuscript Summary
This German-language devotional manuscript from Thurgau was written on paper and can be dated to the last quarter of the fifteenth century. It contains the Little Office of the Virgin, the liturgical offices for the Holy Spirit, the Trinity, and Divine Mercy, as well as penitential psalms, a litany, the Office of the Dead, and a number of Marian prayers, hymns, and sequences. Numerous rubrics, red Lombards, and references in the text. The binding’s pastedowns from a document pertaining to a trial in Constance indicate, together with the regional saints in the Litany, that it was produced in the region of Thurgau. A possessor’s mark from the late sixteenth century names a certain Lady “Bese” as owner.
