Manuscript Summary
This illuminated Book of Hours from northeastern France, probably the bishopric of Amiens, was produced in the first half of the fifteenth century. The manuscript contains a French calendar with saints typical for the region, the Office of the Virgin, other offices, prayers, penitential psalms, litanies, and the Office of the Dead. The rich book decoration includes gold-embellished champie initials, red-blue line fillers and vine-and-ivy-leaf margins. The manuscript was originally decorated with miniatures, which have since been excised.
