Manuscript Summary
The paper manuscript retraces the history of the castle of Angenstein, reproducing the documents, notably the letters of enfeoffment (“Lehenbrief”) in German and in Latin, at the time the castle was transferred from the Prince-Bishop of Basel, Melchior von Lichtenfels (1554-1575), to his chacnellor, Wendelin Zipper, in 1557. An ownership note appears on the title page (p. 3), “de Grandvillers avocat”, which probably refers to Conrad de Grandvillers (1813-1880), the last member of the family that had owned the Castle of Angenstein since 1751. The manuscript is bound in a parchment bifolium taken from a fourteenth-century liturgical manuscript.
