Manuscript Summary
This paper manuscript contains the praises of the saints of the Diocese of Basel, listed in a table of contents (p. 6), which specifies, as does the title (p. 5), that this is the fifth volume of such eulogies. Currently, no other volume of this text has been identified, nor has the author. According to textual indices, the author could have belonged to the clergy of Delémont, as is suggested, for example, by the description of the installation of the reliquiaries of Saints Germain and Randoald on the high alter of Saint Marcel of Delémont. His eulogies serve to draw moral lessons based on the Old and New Testament. Fiercely opposed to the Protestant Reformation, he supplements them with proselytizing discourses, for example, in favor of the veneration of relics. The manuscript ends with a poetic hymn on the name of Jesus (pp. 401-412) and the French-language service for Saint Marcel (pp. 413-415).
