Manuscript Summary
This paper manuscript contains a copy of the customary of the Sisters of the Annunciation (pp. 9-138; table of contents pp. 139-143), an order of Augustinian regular canonesses, followed by four long French-language sermons (pp. 145-251), copied in a different hand, and the ordinances for the convent of the Annonciades in Porrentruy (pp. 253-260). The customary belonged to Sister Marie Charlotte Ignace (p. 3). Born Anne Suzanne Philippine Guyot de Malseigne (1758-1848), she professed in the order of the recluses of the Annunciation at the convent of Porrentruy in 1774 (cf. A2598, p. 2-58). This sister’s possession of a copy of the customary corresponds to the indication placed at the beginning of the work where Archbishop Antoine Pierre de Grandmont (1614-1698) recommends that every sister of the order: “en aye des exemplaires dans sa chambre” (p. 7).
