Manuscript Summary
This paper manuscript contains the notes taken by François Xavier Ertel (1754-1828) during the theology courses given by Father Grégoire Voirol (1751-1827), at the Premonstratensian abbey of Bellalay (pp. 9-407). Chiefly in Latin, these notes divide into six treatises on God, man, religion, revelation, the true Church, and its constitution, including the pope. Additional notes on penance and baptism follow (pp. 409-446). Owned by “Ed. Hornstein” (probably the priest Eugène-Nicolas-Edouard Hornstein (1826-1887), p. 3), the manuscript was given by his heirs in 1906 to Adrien Kohler, president of the commission of the Ecole cantonale de Porrentruy, to be placed into the school’s library.
