| Manuscript Summary: | Manuscript Summary This missal was prepared in Northern Italy, perhaps Como, as can be inferred from the presence in the calendar of the chief saints of that diocese. It likely arrived in Sonvico at the time of the establishment of the parish in 1419, at which occasion it received a new binding and the local feasts were inserted into the calendar. On a few pages that were originally blank, and on a few others that were inserted, is written information on local events (fires, cloudbursts, storms) and the chronicle of the parish priests from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century. All the illuminated initials, and perhaps a miniature with the crucifixion at the beginning of the canon, were removed between the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. |
