Page layout:
Single column, 18 lines per page. Written area 17 x 14.6 (12.5) cm. (Bruckner). Drypoint ruling, circular prickings.
Writing and hands: Skilled St Gall Caroline minuscule by one s. IX hand.
Decoration: Initials, of artistic quality, decorated with red throughout (cf. the beginning, and pp. 13, 167). Some titles in capitalis quadrata and rustics. (Scarpatetti)
Additions:
Occasional marginalia by a later (s. XVI) hand.
Binding:
Ninth-century
binding, light leather and wood, original parchment pastedowns. On the back pastedown a note (s. X-XI) about a miracle of St Martin, and probationes pennae, the latter also found on the front pastedown. Might be identified with entries in the ninth-century St Gall library catalogues, e.g.: ‘Vita sancti martini, optime scripta’ [Lehmann, MBKDS, p. 78].
