This manuscript contains Jerome's commentary on Matthew; it was written in Carolingian minuscule by the scribe Subo, who signed at the end of the text (p. 267) as well as on the last page (p. 268), which today, as the inside back page, is glued to the cover. The style of the initials indicates the Rhaetian area, whereas the scribe Subo is attested at Disentis Abbey. The manuscript has been in Einsiedeln since at least the 17th century, as shown by an ex libris on page 1.

The first part of this manuscript (pp. 2-261) contains the Gospel of Matthew by Jerome and a sermon attributed to Isidore of Seville (pp. 261-262), while the second part (pp. 263-378) contains a copy of the Expositio quattuor evangeliorum by Pseudo-Jerome. Various scribes wrote this manuscript in a pre-Carolingian minuscule which may show characteristics of Raetian script. The influence of the Raetian script can clearly be seen in several initials (p. 2, 5, 62).

This manuscript contains Gregory the Great's Moralia in Job. It is assumed the manuscript originated in Disentis, since its Carolingian minuscule is very similar to that of manuscript 126, written by the scribe Subo of Disentis. Therefore this manuscript, too, should be dated to the first third of the 9th century. The manuscript has been held at Einsiedeln since the 17th century, as attested by an ex libris on p. 3.

This manuscript contains the homilies of Gregory the Great on the prophet Ezekiel. It is written by various hands in a minucule which in general is close to the Raetian minuscule. Some researchers attribute the manuscript to a Swiss or Raetian scriptorium. A part of pages 204 and 206 and the entire page 214 are written in uncial script. The mansucript contains numerous initials with geometric and vegetal elements, similar in style to the Remedius-Sacramentary (Cod. Sang. 348). The maniculae by Heinrich von Ligerz confirm that the manuscript was in Einsiedeln in the 14th century already.

This two-part composite manuscript contains various grammatical texts. Probably the two parts were combined when the manuscript was rebound in the 14th century; since then, it has been in the Abbey Library of Einsiedeln. The first part (2-110) was probaby copied in Reichenau in the 3rd third of the 9th century. The second part (111-215) is older and was perhaps written in Reims in the 8th/9th century. Certain scholars (Bruckner) suggest that the script of the second part may be Raetian.

This collection contains, together with other texts, a collection of Canons of ecclesiastical law called the Collectio Quesnelliana. It was probably produced in a scriptorium in northeastern France and was later held by the Court Library of Charlemagne. In the 11th century it was placed in the Cologne Cathedral library, where it was annotated by Bernold von Konstanz. It was later owned by suffragan bishop of Constance Jakob Johann Mirgel (1559-1629) before making its way, together with a group of his books, to the cloister at Einsiedeln.

Originally, this codex constituted a whole together with Einsiedeln 281. It was created in the 8th/9th century in the Raetian-Lombard area. This collection contains various council documents (pp. 1-41) and the Collectio vetus gallica (pp. 41-166), the oldest systematic collection of canons from Gaul at the time of the Franks. The first part contains Old High German glosses from the 10th century. In the 17th century, the codex was in the area of Constance, as can be inferred from the ex libris of Bischop Johann Jakob Mirgel (1598-1644) on the front inside cover of the binding; shortly thereafter it reached Einsiedeln, as attested by the 17th century ex libris (p. 1).

This composite manuscript consists of five parts. The first part (1-93) contains an exemplar of the Benedictine Rule, which was probably brought to Einsiedeln by Saint Meinrad († 861). From the viewpoint of textual-criticism, the text belongs to the group of Textus receptus of the Benedictine Rule, as it is found in northern Italy and in Montecassino in the 8th/9th century; noteworthy are the many interlinear glosses. The other parts of the composite manuscript contain: a Martyrologium (93-108), a Breviarium Apostolorum (98-99), two hymns (100), and a poem composed by Heinrich von Würzburg (109-148).

For about twenty years it has been known that this extremely old manuscript contains medical texts by two different authors, whereas the contents of the entire volume had previously been attributed to Galen. The two parts are: 1. Galen's Ad Glauconem de medendi methodo Lib. I-III (which does not, however, follow the correct sequence of that text), and 2. Pelagonius , Ars veterinaria. The beginning and the end of this text are missing.

This is an almost square manuscript with wide margins, into which several glosses have been inserted. The manuscript's main text is the treatise De statu animarum by Claudianus Mamertus, which had been widely disseminated in the Middle Ages. This codex is a particularly important manuscript of collected texts. Especially important are the Inscriptiones Urbis Romae and the Itinerarium Urbis Romae. The Ordo Romanus XXIII for use on Good Friday, transmitted only in this manuscript, is also notable. Additional contents of this codex include a selection from the Notae of Marcus Valerius Probus, the Gesta Salvatoris (Evangelium Nicodemi), Varia Poemata and a text entitled De inventione s. Crucis. There is no information about how the manuscript traveled to Pfäfers and then on to Einsiedeln (most likely during the 14th century).

This codex begins with works of Augustine: 1r-27v Liber de gratia et libero arbitrio, 28r-63r letters from and to Augustine De praedestinatione and 63r-93r Liber secundus de dono perseverentiae. Then follows the Tractatus de gratia et libero arbitrio first produced by the Cistercian Abbot Bernard of Clairvaux in 1127. Folios 1-80 are palimpsests. The book's decoration limits itself to rather awkward red decorated initials and first lines at the beginning of each book, red-accentuated capitals and a pen drawing on 93r. On 111r there appears, as in Cod. 138 a later note of ownership, in a hand that resembles that of Cod. 90.

This manuscript, written in the Abbey of Murbach (France, Upper Rhine) about 830, contains the biblical commentaries of Hrabanus Maurus on the Books of Judith and Esther and the Book of Maccabees. The manuscript is valuable for its age as well as for the picture poem inserted into the commentary on the Book of Judith. It depicts Queen Judith, the wife of Ludwig the Pius, sanctified by the hand of God.

‘Venerable' is the term that comes to mind for describing this manuscript. In fact, it can be considered ‘venerable' due to its age since it is dated circa 825. Furthermore, the author of the main texts copied herein is Beda Venerabilis or the Venerable Bede (672/674, † 735), who was a monk at Jarrow Abbey in England. Copied in the Benedictine Abbey of Massay (France, Cher, near Bourges), the manuscript contains several of the Venerable Bede's scientific works such as the Easter cycle, also known as Bede's cycle, the De natura rerum, the De temporibus and the De temporum ratione. Various other texts were also inserted: the Annales Petaviani and the annals of the Abbey of Massay, calendar, fragments on the computus, letters.

This manuscript from the 9th century contains Book IV of the De compendiosa doctrina by Nonius Marcellus, a Latin grammarian who lived in the 4th century AD. The corrections which have been added to the text are ascribed to Lupus von Ferières. The existence of a brief text in Tironian notes and of a book catalog (a list of 21 titles) led earlier researchers to believe that the manuscript originated in Fleury-sur-Loire, but the most recent investigations indicate a connection with the cloister of Fulda in Germany

Along with Heidelberg, Universitätsbibliothek Pal. lat. 921, this fragment from the Fulda Abbey Scriptorium constitutes one of two documented manuscripts of the Getica by Jordanes, written in a (continental) Anglo-Saxon minuscule; it is not, however, a part of the last leaf of Pal. lat. 921, which has been missing since the beginning of the 19th century. Along with Palermo, Archivio di Stato "Codice Basile" and Rome, Biblioteca Vaticana Ottob. lat. 1346, and together with Pal. lat. 920, this remnant of a leaf is among the oldest text witnesses of the Getica. It could be a part of a manuscript by Jordanes that had been attested in Fulda until the middle of the 16th century.

Fragment of an evangeliary written around 800. It contains the pericopes necessary for the entire liturgical year. The surviving parts begin with the pericope for Septuagesima Sunday and suggest that, in addition to Sundays and holidays, gospels were chosen for every Wednesday and Friday, and during Lent - as in the Missale Romanum - for every day of the week. The final part contains the gospels for the votive Mass, however only four pericopes have survived. The script indicates a scriptorium in Raetia Curiensis as place of origin.

Fragment of a copy of Gregory the Great's Homilies on the Gospels, created around 800. Two excerpts remain: the first section of text, consisting of parts of chapter 17 (17.16-17.18), is a commentary on Luke 10, 1-9, i.e. the verses concerning the sending out of the seventy-two disciples. The second section of text, containing parts of chapter 18 (18.2-18.3), refers to John 8.46-59. These verses are a commentary on a dispute between Jesus and “the” Jews as well as the high priests; it concerns the identity of Jesus or rather his claim of identity, his message and the rejection thereof.

Fragment of a cartulary written around 800. Copies, in part complete, of six deeds of donation have survived. With these, several persons donated - for the salvation of their own soul or for that of relatives - pieces of land to the churches St. Hilarius in Chur and St. Carpophorus in Trimmis. The fact that the two churches St. Hilarius in Chur and St. Carpophorus in Trimmis are named as beneficiaries of the donations suggests that this fragment was part of an episcopal cartulary.

This manuscript lacks a beginning, has much-trimmed margins, and was written by a variety of hands, is datable to the second half through the end of the 9th century. It contains readings from the Gospel texts for the feasts from Christmas through Pentacost as well as those of a few saints. The first words of the Gospel texts were augmented later (12th century) in the outer margin. The text for the feast celebrating the birth of the Archangel Michael (129v-131v) is specially highlighted with a pen sketch of the saint in the margin and a marker in the lower corner. The flyleaf is a notarial document dated 1373 in favour of Isabelle von Neuenburg.

This mutilated bifolium in Anglo-Saxon and Carolingian minuscule represents the sole surviving remainder of the Thuringia-cartulary of Fulda. It was part of the eight volume cartulary of the Monastery of Fulda, arranged by region, which was compiled under Hrabanus-Maurus in the second quarter of the 9th century. In addition to a complete volume in the state archives of Marburg (K 424), evidence for the entire work comes from various fragments in the municipal archives of Leutkirch in the Allgäu and in the university library of Tübingen (Mm I 7).

The very worn and soiled pages 1r and 88v suggest that this single-column, mostly undecorated copy of Augustine's Enchiridion, produced in Tours in the 9th century, was for a long time used unbound. It probably received its first binding in the 12th century in Schaffhausen; at that time, the missing final part of the text was added on a double leaf (89-90) at the end. This is the only known manuscript from Tours in the library of Allerheiligen Abbey; it is listed in the abbey's register of books from about 1100 (Min. 17, f. 306v). The Romanesque binding has been largely preserved; only the flyleaves and pastedowns were replaced in the 19th century and, as with Min. 32, the spine was covered with parchment.

This manuscript of a systematic collection of Canon Law, created in Lyon in the context of the Carolingian church reform that took place around 800. This collection is named the "Dacheriana" after its primary editor, the Frenchman Jean-Luc d'Achéry. It was written in a Carolingian minuscule during the first half of the 9th century and is the oldest manuscript held by the library of the Chapter Archive of Sion, where is has been held since at least the 16th or 17th century (ownership mark on fol. 2r).

Remnants of an Alcuin's Bible from the Dominican Monastery of Bern, which were used around 1495 by the bookbinder Johannes Vatter as pastedowns for various incunables that are currently held in Bern and Solothurn. After the secularization of the monastery in 1528, the host volume reached Solothurn; it was first held in the library of the St. Ursus Monastery, after its secularization in the cantonal library, one of the predecessors of the current Solothurn Central Library. The composite manuscript VadSlg Ms. 292 combines three independently produced parts, bound together in about 1460 at the Abbey of St. Gall. The first part is a Psalter from the 9th century; whether it was produced in St. Gall is questionable. The hymnal from the 12th century that comprises the second part contains a dedicatory illustration showing the scribe Eberhard presenting his book to Gallus, while Pope Gregory sits at a podium writing down songs that that a dove representing the Holy Spirit is whispering in his ear. The third part is a fragment containing prologues to the Psalter.

This Evangelary with an unusual, nearly square format and full-page illuminated initials was written and decorated in the late 9th century at the Abbey of St. Gall. The binding, which was originally covered in bright silk brocade in red, yellow, and green, is equally unusual. Remnants of this material can still be found on the inner edge of the cover. The volume was annotated by Ekkehart IV during the 11th century; there are also some verses in his hand at the end.

This unimposing composite manuscript contains six works of differing content types and origins, bound together under the auspices of the librarian of St. Gall in about 1460. The individual elements were produced independently of one another during the 9th or 10th century. Some are incomplete, lacking the beginning, the ending, or both. Nevertheless, this composite manuscript received attention from early on, as some of the component parts are important for the texts they transmit. This volume contains the only early medieval transmissions of the Langobard Chronicle by Andreas Bergamensis and the life of the Irish saint Findan. The Pfafers manuscript of the Vitas Patrum or Adhortationes sanctorum patrum ad profectum perfectionis monachorum was produced during the first half of the 9th century. It contains teachings of the fathers of Christian monasticism, who were extremely well received during the middle ages and had a strong influence on hagiography. This text was written by one hand and includes black, red and yellow filled initials and captions. On the front and back pastedowns are fragments of a homiliarium.

Like Cod. Sang. 722, this manuscript contains an important, but incomplete, copy of the Lex Romana Curiensis, a private literary work in the Gallo-Franco tradition of the "breviary literature" based on the Lex Romana Visigothorum. At the end, the rhaetic sub-deacon Orsicinus signs as a copyist.

The Liber viventium Fabariensis is likely the most important surviving work of Rhaetish book art. This manuscript was originally designed as an Evangelistary and richly adorned with initials, frames for canonical tables and full-page illustrations of the symbols of the four evangelists. Starting in 830 the names of monks who joined the monastic community were listed in the empty canonical table frames, together with living and deceased benefactors of the abbey. In addition to its function as evangelistary, memorial and record of the monastic brotherhood, the Liber viventium was later also used to preserve the historial records and treasure catalog of Pfäfers Abbey. Because of the legal importance of the Liber viventium up to modern times, the volume is housed in the archival collection of Pfäfers Abbey.

Biblical books: Tobias (pp. 2–73), Judith (pp. 74–164), Esther (pp. 165–247), Canticum Canticorum (pp. 248–261), written by several hands that show an insular influence in parts. On pp. 264–318 there is a biblical glossary that is defective in the beginning; it is ordered according to the books of the Bible (Genesis to Sirach). Among the explanations of words, which are predominately in Latin, there are also 178 Old High German glosses. Several pages (pp. 101–104) are missing pieces at the edges, which have been pasted over with older fragments in Merovingian cursive („a-b type“ from Corbie), which belong to Cod. Sang. 214.

Psalter, produced in the second half of the 9th century, possibly in northern France. Following the Psalms, which were heavily annotated with commentaries in later centuries (mainly the 14th and 15th centuries), the Psalter is followed by the Canticles as well as a fragment of a Litany of the Saints not produced at St. Gallen. The beautifully illuminated initial capital of the first Psalm (Beatus vir) on page 1 is strongly influenced by Irish models.

A copy of the Gospel of Matthew made in St. Gall in the 9th century, together with the beginning of a copy of the Gospel of Mark. The second half contains a Greek-Latin copy of Psalms 101 through 150, Canticles in addition to prayers (Magnificat, Te Deum, Pater Noster) and a Litany of the Saints, copied at the Abbey of St. Gall between 880 and 900 from a master copy presumed to have originated in Constantinople.

Codex Delta: the Gospels in Greek with interlinear translation into Latin, written by Irish monks, probably in the Cloister of Bobbio (northeast of Genoa) about 850. Among the most important ancient Greek biblical texts that have been preserved. Colorfully detailed initial capitals make this item important to the study of manuscript decoration. The catalog of a cycle of Greek Gospel illustrations with 42 titles is found on page 129. The sole (fragmentary) known Carmen of the Gospel (Carmen de evangelio) by Pseudo-Hilarius is also bound into this manuscript. Two sister-manuscripts of this Codex Delta are held by the University of Basel Library (the Greek-Latin Psalter, A VII 3) and in the State Library of Saxony at Dresden (Letters of Paul in Greek and Latin).
